Insights from the Prague Protein Spring 2023

Published by: Veronika Vetýšková | 25. 05. 2023 11:12

Prague Protein Spring (PPS) is a conference that has been organized in Prague every two years since 2010. Unfortunately, the last conference was held in 2018, due to the COVID restrictions. The PPS was therefore relaunched after five years and it was a great success again. In my opinion, the focus of this year's conference, "Proteins and Diseases", was very actual. The conference was organized by three experienced professors, namely Jiří Vondrášek from the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS, Mikael Olivenberg from the Stockholm University, and last but not least, Michele Vendruscolo from the University of Cambridge, who gave us an excellent presentation of their current research.

A big highlight was the opening lecture by Sir Alan Fersht, who is a professor at the University of Cambridge and presented his topic From engineering mutations to study folding and stability to drugging p53 oncogenic mutants. The whole conference was very… Read more

The FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Conference is a special event entirely organized by and for young researchers under the auspices of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) and the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). It is based on a successful ENABLE initiative of four renowned European Research Institutes: IRB Barcelona in Spain, NNF CPR in Denmark, RIMLS in the Netherlands and SEMM in Italy initially funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme.

The FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE 2022 Conference was hosted by the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS) in Spain. The conference took place at the campus of Virgen Del Rocío University Hospital in Sevilla, Spain on 16th-18th November 2022 and accommodated about 300 participants. On the first day, the conference program was kicked-off at the Casa de la Ciencia, an iconic place for education and popularization of science located in the heart of Sevilla. What is FEBS YSF and why do you want to apply for it?

Publikovala: Terezie Páníková | 21. 11. 2022 21:17

Young Scientists' Forum of Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS YSF) is a three-day conference for selected PhD students and postdocs, preceding the main FEBS congress. During these three days, you have the opportunity to meet about a hundred young scientists and learn about their research, listen to excellent invited talks not only about science, participate in workshops on topics such as ethics, soft skills, publication writing or general public science communication, or to get specific advices on how to write a successful funding application. All this is accompanied by a social programme.

What is another advantage of the FEBS YSF? FEBS will provide you with accommodation for both the FEBS YSF and the follow-up FEBS Congress, pay your registration fee for the main Congress, provide full overhead for the duration of the FEBS YSF and also substantially contribute to your travel expenses. For Terezie and Karolina, FEBS YSF was an amazing opportunity to meet interesting young scientists all over the world. They got so excited that they now want more people to learn about FEBS YSF so they can attend the event and enjoy all the benefits as well… Read more

We are starting the CSBMB Junior section – join us now!

Published by: Martin Toul | 15. 10. 2022 14:51

It is our great pleasure to announce that the scientific committee of the Czech Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (CSBMB) officially approved the foundation of the Section of Young Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (CSBMB Junior) on 8th March 2022. Immediately after the approval, everybody in the Junior section started working hard to create a new platform for you, young scientists, with the aim of connecting researchers and spreading the word about exciting events and offers of financial support for research visits and stays abroad (more information in the ABOUT tab and below). The result of our effort is this website alongside the social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We will be very grateful if you start following us on any of these platforms.

We truly believe this is an important milestone that will make the CSBMB membership significantly more attractive for young researchers starting their careers because their active participation and future shaping of the society is essential and absolutely critical. But that’s not all from us. Step by step, we will expand this website to make it a community portal with the possibility to create your own user accounts, follow other connections, send messages, or even write… Read more
