What is Young Scientific Forum and why you should apply

Young Scientific Forum (YSF) is a four day conference for selected young scientists from all over Europe! After the successful selection to participate in the event, you are also invited to attend the main FEBS Congress (with the same poster)! This year we have attended YSF in Tours, France and it was just great. Imagine an event, when you can meet like-minded peers (Ph.D. students and postdocs) where you can discuss scientific topics, network in relaxed environment and learn more about your career development. In fact, YSF is a great opportunity to meet with other young scientists, learn new trends in STEM field and establish the connections that might boost collaborations and cooperations. The event contains poster session, scientific talks and workshops aimed at soft skills.

When I sent my application form to YSF 2023 I didn’t expect to be chosen and unfortunately I also wasn’t. Few weeks later I was very nicely surprised when I got an e-mail from YSF commitee saying that if I don’t have any plans for July, I can participate. So of course I decided to go and I spent really nice time with PhD students from all over the world, I listened to interesting lectures given by some participants and also I really enjoyed the rich social program prepared for us by YSF commitee. Attending the Young Scientist's Forum (YSF) conference was an incredible journey. In the heart of historic Tours, France, I joined over a hundred fellow PhD students and post-docs to share my research, gained valuable career insights, and connected with scientists from all across Europe. Thanks to the YSF FEBS grant, I had the opportunity to meet like-minded students, engage in thought-provoking discussions on publishing ethics and CV development, and build international relationships that will shape my scientific future. Eligibility criteria for anyone interested to get travel awards:

1. You have to be 35 years old maximum, but there are some exceptions like studies were started later, maternity leave (18 months per child), prolonged illness or other personal reasons
2. You must be a Ph.D. student or postdoctoral researcher (5 years max after your Ph.D. defense)
3. You must be a member of the Czech Society For Biochemistry and Molecular biology (ČSBMB), register here (the fee is 500 CZK per year) or contact directly vendula.stavikova@csbmb.cz
4. You shouldn´t be a participant of YSF 2023 or other FEBS YTF award recipient in 2024

How to submit an application and participate at YSF and FEBS 2024? It simple, just prepare:

1. Abstract – you can use these tips and tricks
2. Proof of status (Ph.D. student or postdoc)
3. Proof of ČSBMB membership
4. CV according to the required template
5. Letter of Motivation
6. Letter of Recommendation – ask you supervisor, advisor or head of the department
7. Proof of Age

If you are accepted to attend the YSF, you will be automatically welcome to participate in the main FEBS Congress as well!
